Should I Befriend this "Midnight Caller"?

"I'm a young lady, that's all I want to disclose (pls, don't ask me if I'm married or not; I'm withholding that for certain reasons.)

This guy or should I say man called me at about midnight, say by 11pm thereabout, insisting that I called him and that was why he called back; he wanted to know my name. I later told him anyway (after I made him say his name); then I made it clear that I never dialled that number, which was true but he insisted. Okay. The next thing was

"What's your take on kids receiving gifts from strangers?"

gift-biscuits-child-stranger-motherThis young mother was in the hospital to see her toddler's doctor on an appointment but she had to wait in the waiting room as a result of the crowd of patients who were also waiting to see the doctor. While they waited, her child would move around, smile at people, at times display some interesting childish gestures and before long, the little child's presence was registered in minds and a few others who couldn't resist the temptation of coming close changed their positions to somewhere close to the child.

But there was this particular woman, she should be in her early 60's, she not only came close, she suddenly brought out some biscuits, obviously not freshly opened, from a clear transparent polythene wrap. And immediately the biscuits were out of the wrapper, she gave a piece to the child but the young mother who couldn't hide her surprise and maybe fear, quickly snatched the biscuit from her child; now you know that's not going to be easy... Not as it sounds.  She grabbed it, not minding the child's scream or the strangers' questioning or curious stares, which are now fixed on her. "But why are you

On a Final Note... (Health Week)

So on a final note of this season’s HEALTH WEEK, we will be discussing a terrible infection –TOILET INFECTION or TOILET DISEASE (as it is commonly called). No doubt you know what I’m talking about already if you have been there before! So sweet to scratch yet so hurtful and appalling to behold! You don’t want to experience that if you haven’t, dear. It's disgusting!
Now, what exactly is this thing called TOILET INFECTION? How is it contacted? Is it actually transmitted through the sharing of toilet? Do we have the right conceptions about it? Again, is it a peculiar infection to the female folk alone or can men also contact the infection? What about children? How does it look like? How does the infection manifest –signs &symptoms? Does it have a cure? That must be very expensive if it has any, you’d say. How can this awful/disgraceful infection be prevented? Etcetera etcetera… So many questions on somebody’s mind out there… Not to worry, we’ve got a pharmacist in the house to handle it. Watch out for Pharm. Timeyin Ogungbe’s presentation, in a short while… Enjoy reading!

‪#‎GoodMorning‬! I love you all!

Health Week Day 4 -DIET

DIET
by Sewhenu I. Opasina (Nee Ajo)
Diet has to do with your feeding plan, especially your choice of food. We’ve all been thought in schools of how important it is to eat a BALANCED DIET, which are:
Carbohydrate
Protein
Vitamin
Fats & Oil
Mineral Salts
(plus) Water

Yes, we know but how well have we kept to the rules? We need to go back to the drawing board in order to avoid doing a lot of harm to our health. What are the risks involved if we don’t feed well?
Effects of a Poor Diet
(Here, we will be using nutrition interchangeably with diet)
Good nutrition, based on healthy eating is one essential factor that helps us to stay healthy and be active.
WHAT CAUSES POOR NUTRITION?
Poor eating habits include –
Under- Eating or Over-Eating
Not having enough of the healthy foods we need each day
Consuming too many types of food and drink, which are low in fibre or high in fat, salt and/or sugar.
These unhealthy eating habits can affect our nutrient intake, including all constituents of a balanced diet as well as fibre and fluid.

HOW DOES POOR NUTRITION AFFECT US?
Poor nutrition can do a lot of havoc to our daily health and wellbeing and reduce our ability to lead an enjoyable and active life.
Poor diet can contribute to stress, tiredness and our capacity to work, and over time, it can contribute to the risk of developing some illnesses and other health problems such as:
• eating disorders.
• being overweight or obese
• tooth decay
• high blood pressure
• high cholesterol
• heart disease and stroke
• diabetes
• osteoporosis
• some cancers
• depression
• weight loss (you become lean)
• memory loss or low mental abilities
• hair loss
• weak immune system (inability of the body to effectively or efficiently fight diseases due to lack of necessary nutrients), etc.

TAKE THESE STEPS TO START EATING WELL.
• Have a good variety of healthy foods from the five food groups each day.
• Make sure you eat fruits and vegetables each day
• Eat sugary, fatty or salty food occasionally and only in small amounts
• Drink fresh, clean water instead of sugary drinks
• instead of junks or unhealthy food, go for healthy recipes that look and taste good
• plan your meals ahead and shop for healthy ingredients –yes, it’s good to plan ahead
• enjoy cooking and eating healthy food with family or friends and without distractions such as the television.
• Once Again, IT IS FAR SAFER TO COOK YOUR FOOD.
• (Also) TEACH your CHILDREN/family the RIGHT WAY TO GO when it comes to eating well (as well as other aspects of life). They learn more from what they see you do.

Now that you have been reminded again, beyond the theories we know, let’s practically drop those poor eating habits over for better ones. Thanks.

"WELCOME BACK!"

Welcome back! Today, on HEALTH WEEK, we’ll be discussing “ITEM 7”. Aha...! You know what I mean… FOOD or “DIET”, to be precise.
Yes, we know, BALANCED DIET is no news but the question is this, “Are we doing it rightly?” Do we actually pay attention to eating well –as we should (based on body demands) and when it is due in reality?
Let’s find out...
Good morning, lovely people!
